About Shanty Vibes

Each and everyday thousands of visitors from around the world log on to ShantyVibes.com in search of the authentic sounds of the Caribbean.

It all started in 1997 when award winning Radio Program Director, Troy Brown, moved from California to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Troy, a radio D.J. at the time and long time reggae fan had longed to work in the Caribbean so he could experience the culture and "Irie" vibes. While in St. Thomas, he familiarized himself with as much of the music scene as possible. Troy also traveled to neighboring  islands to experience the music scene, 11 islands and 6 countries later Troy returned to the states to work for a cluster of radio stations owned by CBS/Infinity Broadcasting (Viacom).

Troy returned to the Virgin Islands in 2001, this time St Croix, to work for and later program "Isle 95" WJKC, 95.1 FM. Troy also consulted the "The Wave"  94.5 & 93.7 FM on St Lucia, "Hott 93" on Trinidad, and "GEM FM" on Antigua, Montserrat, St Kitts & Nevis.

Shortly after returning to the Virgin Islands, "Reggae 97.3 FM" in Tortola, BVI quietly disappeared from the airways creating a void in the market and a chance for Troy to create and program a new station. In April 2005, Troy launched WSTX FM 100 for JKC Communications, the first 24/7 Reggae Radio Station to broadcast from the US Virgin Islands. Word of the new Reggae Station quickly spread and WSTX FM 100 immediately started posting the station's weekly "Top 20" Reggae Chart. Each week the chart  is forwarded  to all major record labels that deal with Reggae and Caribbean music as well as hundreds of loyal web followers on our mailing list.

March 17, 2008, ShantyVibes.com is lanched.

October 16, 2009, Troy exits WSTX FM 100 to focus full time on ShantyVibes.com and the launching of "Shanty Vibes Radio".

December 31, 2009, "Shanty Vibes Radio" is officially launched playing Reggae, Dancehall, Soca, Calypso & more. Listen Now!
